Our exam has vindicatory been over and I now feel really, promiscuous. Oh ! What an unbearable incumbrance had been cumulous upon mc! Thank God that it has at length dropped off.

I am now fully independent and convey to go on a trip. Fatherhood has consented to this but has advised me to guaranteed the organization of a genuine christian. And nobody can be a turn fellow than you.

The man is real vast and multifarious. There are innumberable things of share broad all over the concern. These are ever tantalising the thought minds to see them, to cognise them, to see them. He must relocation from space to square, sec and savour the beauties of nature and make himself wiser and wiser by piling receive upon get. Man has a rude advocate to screw, to feel, to change.

But one who, equal you, is satisfied with the comfortableness rotund home-life and allows oneself to rot in ignorance, is an antidromic commencement of God. A Road Safety Campaign In My Town

After a series of serious road accidents in our town, the traffic police of the town launched a road safety campaign. It was inaugurated by the Chief Police Officers. Representatives of school, business houses, and Government offices had been invited to attend the ceremony. In addition to them, all drivers and pedestrians were welcome were to be present.

In declaring the campaign open, the Chief Police Officer pointed to the rising number of deaths and serious disabilities and deformities caused by road accidents. He stressed on the need for being well versed in the provisions of the Highway Code. The listeners were also advised to keep mechanically defective vehicles off the road. According to him unread worthy vehicles caused the most accidents.

The campaign having been officially opened. There was a display of driving by the testers from the office of the Registrar and inspector of motor vehicles. They impressed the spectators with their skilful handling of vehicles while driving, reversing, stopping, changing gears and turning right or left. .They also demonstrated how accidents often took place and how they could be avoided. Some constable from the traffic police showed how pedestrians and motorcyclists were responsible for many accidents.

Many service stations and workshops in the town provided facilities for the motorists to have their vehicles checked for any possible defects, free of charge. Many motorists, motor-cyclists and scooters availed themselves of the facilities. Outside the town, the traffic police marked measured miles to enable the drivers to check their speedometers.

For the schoolchildren, special traffic games were held on the town Padang. At these games demonstrations were given of how to cross the road on foot, of how to turn right or left, enter the road, or come to a stop while riding a bicycle or a motor-cycle. In various schools, the prefects checked each and every bicycle for mechanical defects or for lack of proper equipment. The owners of bicycles without locks, bells, lamps, reflectors, and effective brakes etc were fined and compelled to have the defects corrected immediately.

Officials from the traffic police visited the school to address the pupils and teachers. They all repeated the various points made by the chief police officer while declaring the road, safety campaign open.

A Road Accident

v A few days ago, a very serious accident on the road in front of our school It was recess time and most of us had gathered, in small groups, under the trees beside the road. We saw two large cars approaching us from opposite directions. When the cars were within ten yards of each other both of them left their respective sides of the road and headed towards each other. There was a head-an-collision. The impact was so heavy that it attracted the attention of almost all people in the neighborhood. In a few minutes, there was a lager crowd surrounding the two cars, both of which had been overturned. Their engines had been completely wrecked and the drivers and the passengers in the front seats had been killed. Those sitting behind had been seriously hurt and shocked. Luckily, neither of the vehicles had caught fire.

v I ran straight to the school, office and rang for the police and the ambulance. Meanwhile the members of Ehdi Ambulance Brigade from our school had reached the spot. With the help of some onlookers, they lifted the cars and helped the passengers still alive to get out. Most of them were unconscious and others were groaning with pain, They also gave them whatever medical aid they could.

v A few minutes later, an ambulance and a police van arrived at the scene. The policemen took some measurements of the road. They took no statements as both the drivers had died and the survivors among the passengers were unconscious. The attendants and nurses in the ambulance, party had great difficulty in extracting the bodies of those dead inside the smashed cars. Many of the helpers could not bear' the sight of the grisly task they had to do some even fainted. While the dead bodies were being pulled out, the wounded passengers were removed to hospital for treatment.

v The road where the accident had taken place presented a horrible sight. There were puddles of blood all over the place. Scattered here and there were pieces of flesh torn from the dead bodies.

v The wrecked vehicles were removed to the traffic office. They are still lying there, as a grim reminder of What may happen when people get careless on the road.

Again, in a train you cannot enjoy the sights and sounds of the cities you pass on your way. But in a motor-car you do not feel imprisoned. You are free to take what road you like. You can drive as fast or as slow as you like. You can stop where-ever you like and can visit the prettiest parts of the countries you pass. v Sometime ago I drove with three friends from Karachi to Thatta a drive of about sixty miles. We started early in the morning, and had soon left the noisy streets and smoky town behind, and found ourselves in the open. We also enjoyed a sight of the barracks of the soldiers stationed at Malir Cantonment.

v After couple of hour’s drive we reached Bhambore, a place of historical interest. A small museum was there. At the back of it we saw a dry, barren and sandy land. The scenery was wild and at places even dreary.

v After staying there for about fifteen minutes, we took the road leading to Thatta. We drove through the fine streets of the town to a hotel, where we had a welcome wash, and still more welcome tea. After taking some rest, we moved freely wherever we liked. We enjoyed the sight of the gleaming towers and minerats of the Shahi Mosque, built by Shahjahan. We also saw the site of the burial ground where thousands belonging to the Mughal royal families were buried. It looked like the “City of the Dead”.

v I have to get up very early to get ready for school therefore; I cannot go for a morning walk every day. I can do so on Sunday or other holidays.

v Last Sunday, I left my house early in the morning. It was very dark still. I had' my favorite walking -stick in my hand and my pet dog. Zero, followed one. Only a few of the shops in the street where I live were open. Almost all of them were restaurants. There were not many customers in them, either. Clusters of swallows were roosting on the electric wires overhead not one of them did as much as move awing. This, scene of desolation presented a striking contrast with the ear rendering noise of the daytime when the, streets in my town are virtually littered with cars and overcrowded with people.

v As we reached the suburbs of the town the scene of desolation grew even worse. The silence of the graveyard prevailed over the stately bungalows on either side of the road. The watch-dogs were, perhaps, the only living creatures awake. Some of them greeted Zero quite affectionately. This showed that Zero had been a frequently visitor to that part of the town.

v As we approached the railway-line near our town I saw the morning train leaving the local station. I could have crossed the line before it had approached the spot where I stood, but I decided to wait and see it go past. I found it to be quite different from any train. I had ever seen. I could not see a single passenger putting his head out of the window to admire the morning scene. There were no curious young people to be seen standing on the foot-boards, either. Most of the windows were shut but even those, which were open, revealed no sign of the life inside.

v It was dawn when I reached the spot where I usually take my deep breathing exercises on Sundays. I stood facing the rising sun for a few seconds and admired its beauty. As it rose from behind a hill, it appeared like a red disc of fire. Before taking my exercise I walked over the grass wet with dew. It was very refreshing experience.

v Points: Fire broke out in a big house – The cause of the fire. At this time a strong wind was blowing – The neighbors tried to control the fire. Soon the fire brigade arrived – The whole house was burnt to ashes – Much loss of property – An act of heroism displayed by a man.

                                     

v It was on the 7th of November that a fire broke out in a big house. The house was situated in one of the most crowded lanes of the city. It had three storey’s and many rooms. It is said that about six families were occupying this house.

v The fire started on the second floor, and soon spread to all parts, of the building. Many causes were given for the outbreak of the fire. One gentleman said that the fire had been left burning in the fire-place, near which was lying a piece of cloth. The piece of cloth caught fire, and burnt for a while. Afterwards a pile of wood, which was also lying near caught fire. The fire which had at first been a tiny flame developed into a big blaze. It touched the rafters of the roof, and gradually spread over the windows and other parts of the house. The worst thing was a strong wind blowing at that time. This fanned the flames till the houses in the neighborhood also came very near catching the fire.

v At that time cries of lamentation went up from the house. Babies screamed, women wailed, and men shouted for help. Some neighbors were very good, and tried to bring the fire under control at once. The fire brigade soon arrived, and was able to get the flames down in about an hour and a half.

v Much damage was done to the building. Most of it was nothing but a heap of ashes, but some parts of it escaped utter destruction. The inhabitants of the house also lost much. Their clothes and furniture were burnt to ashes, and much valuable property had been lost. The whole loss was estimated at five million rupees. It is said that the building was not insured against fire. If that had been done, the owner would have been able to recover his loss.

v While the house was on fire, one gentleman showed much courage. It is true that all the inmates were able to escape with much difficulty. But one boy was reported to be missing. He was about thirteen years old, and was reading in a school. All his people became very anxious when they found that he had not been rescued from the fire. At this a gentleman, who was a P.T.I, in a school, made up his mind to save him from there flames. The way in which he scaled the burning walls of the house was very remarkable. Many a time he was very near being burnt to death, but he avoided the fire with much cleverness. At last he reached the second storey of the building. He found that cries were coming from one of the rooms. He went inside that room, and found the boy in much distress. The sight of this gentleman filled the boy with hope, and he at once rushed towards him. The teacher carried him on his back. It was wonderful how he climbed down the wall again. As he came down in the street everybody felt very happy, and the parents thanked him again and again.

v We started early in the morning nearly an hour before sunrise. On reaching the river we hired a boat and rowed up stream. The water was calm and boating gave us immense pleasure. We did not row straight. We stopped here and there, sometimes at the right bank and sometimes at the left. v We were all in a sportive mood and on the bank we played and tickled jokes on one another. When the boat moved we splashed water at one another and laughed heartily. This made us forget all the worries and cares of the world and we felt as if we were leading a blissful life. The soothing atmosphere around us added to the magic of our sports. Mr. lamir and Dr Latif, my two cousins, were very interesting members of our party. They were the real fountain-spring pleasure. Sometimes they amused us with comic remarks, gestures and awry looks and sometimes with their songs.

v At the ford we stopped and decided to have a swim. We thought that swimming will add more delight to our programmed and little knew the trouble that lay ahead. Those who did not know how to swim either sat -on the bank or dipped in the water where it was only knee-deep. Dr. Latif was a good swimmer. He swam for a long time and enjoyed the activity with other swimmers. Then he asked me to go with him in the main stream. We swam for some distance but later on I lost confidence and caught Dr. Latif tried to save me but my grip was so strong that he himself became helpless and was unable to move his hands or feet.

v Now the situation became serious. Mr. Zamir and my father rushed to save us. Unfortunately Mr. Zamir also lost his 'self-control and began to drown. Then my father began to move. All of a sudden he stopped and cried aloud to the others for help. There were some shepherds grazing their cattle. They, too, rushed to save us.

v When my father reached us my grip had become loose and Dr. Latif was then free to move. I and Mr Zamir had become unconscious and were drowning. My father brought Dr. Latif out of water. He had regained his self-control. Both of them pushed the boat and came to the spot where we were gradually going down. They pulled us out and brought to the bank. First-aid was rendered to us and we regained consciousness after a few moments of suspense.

v This put an end to all of our merriments. Nobody liked to stay there. The water became frightful and all the holidaymakers were extremely horrified. Without proceeding further in our schedule we decided to discontinue and to go back. No one even thought of taking the refreshment.
